Volunteer with Us

With the ever changing landscape that is Delta/Covid-19 plus the fact that we are an essential service all volunteers must be fully vaccinated to work at KCA.   Whilst we are following MOH guidelines and operating contactless to minimise the risk to our volunteers we ask that you do not apply if you aren't vaccinated.

Volunteers will need their own transport to get to and from KCA's Grenada North Depot.  The scale of our operation may surprise you - we're now based in one huge warehouse.

Every day, kiwis find themselves in need: a mother and her children seeking support after escaping family violence; hungry children struggling at school; or families unable to make ends meet due to a COVID-related job loss.  Last year KCA assisted over 123,000 people in the Greater Wellington region.

We need more volunteers to join our team so we can continue to expand. We have vacancies in both our food rescue and non-food operations.

Currently, over 90 volunteers provide their time and labour to run KCA operations and ensure all the quality donated food and goods are collected and passed on to front-line charities for FREE.

In the spirit of transparency, none of our volunteers are eligible or allowed to take any of the donated food or goods themselves.

KCA is big, KCA is fast, KCA is flexible, and we help thousands in need.

Please note: reliability and responsibility are key attributes that we require of our volunteers. All volunteers need to be able to lift 15-20kg boxes of stock (between 2 people)  and commit to volunteering with KCA for three months. To volunteer with KCA you must be 14 years or older.

We are offering additional shifts, in response to increased demand from the effects of COVID-19 on our communities. Team members must be able to commit to weekly shifts, for a minimum of 3 months.

We are looking for reliable all-rounders who can work as part of a team, either sorting and storing non-food donations, or on the food side of our operations. Warehouse Team Members, Grenada North

Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, 9.30am to 12pm, weekly commitment

Volunteers will need their own transport to get to and from our warehouse in Grenada North as we are not on a public transport route.

This role involves sorting and boxing up, or storing, all incoming donations. These can be anything from clothing and food, to furniture and whiteware. Once you have mastered where all the stock is in our warehouse, you will be able to assist with making up the various orders from our 77 partner agencies we distribute to.

Each warehouse team is also responsible for putting out the rubbish on our site, taking away the reject clothing to the rag bin, wiping down the sorting tables and vacuuming their work areas. This helps out the next volunteer shift and is done by a roster system so each team member only does this about once a month.

The warehouse team photographs all donations coming in and going out, and posts them to our Facebook page. Our various partner agencies call and text us, so a great phone manner is required and you must be able to use a smart phone.

This role can involve some heavy lifting (between 2 people) so you must be reasonably fit.

A minimum commitment of 3 months is required for this shift.
