Social Media, Marketing & Education Volunteers Wanted! – ISPE BostonBased in Grenada North you will need to have your own vehicle to be able to get to us.  There is off street car parking outside our warehouse.  

Please note: reliability and punctuality are key attributes that we require of our volunteers. All volunteers must be over the age of 14, be able to lift 15-20kg boxes of stock (between 2 people)  and commit to volunteering with KCA for three months on a weekly basis.  References will only be supplied after three months.

In the spirit of transparency, none of our volunteers are eligible or allowed to take any of the donated food or goods themselves.

KCA is big, KCA is fast, KCA is flexible, and we helped over 131,706 residents in the Greater Wellington up until 31st March 2022 financial year end.   KCA volunteers redistributed over 335, 604kgs of food shared with local school, kindies, soup ktichens, womens refuge, foodbanks, community groups and families self isolating working with our partner agencies. 

We role that you could play at KCA an essential service.  Our supermarket sponsors will only allow fully vaccinated KCA volunteers on to their sites. We require all new volunteers to be double vaccinated or boostered.  

Our team of 60 volunteers would really like to have a few pairs of additional hands join our food rescue operations. 

During your interview you will need to let us know if you are available to work during all levels of Covid or when you won't be able to come in to assist us. 

We have a wide range of voluntary roles on our food program which we would love to fill asap.  Please feel free to pick 1 day and time slot that would work for you.  Our volunteers are all working in set bubbles.

Food Rescue Admin Team Member in Chiller Truck  

Start and finish in Grenada North, Pick which day, weekly from 8am to 11.30am immediate start

Once you have arrived at our warehouse, our store or general manager will go through with you the manifest for the day.   All team members are issued with an N95 face mask, KCA branded high vis, their own bottle of hand sanitiser, food safety gloves as you will be in the confined space of a truck cab getting to the different supermarkets. 

1 on 1 training is provided and there is also a manual that you can refer to.

Working closely with the volunteer driver you will be required to sort and box donated food from local supermarkets ensuring that you check the 'use by' and the 'best before' dates before placing it into banana boxes.  All donated food is also weighed for reporting purposes. 

You must be able to use a 'smart phone' to take photos and upload the photos on our Facebook page with narrations whilst in the chiller truck between supermarkets. 

Good communication skills are required, as this team member liaises with the various partner agencies calling them from our chiller truck to arrange at time to collect the stock from our refrigeration equipment.    These partner agencies come from all over the Greater Wellington region, including Kapiti, Upper Hutt, and Wellington City. 

This role involves heavy lifting (15-20kgs) between 2 people, so you must be reasonably fit. KCA provides a barrel trolley to wheel the stock to the chiller truck.

This role is a once a week commitment for a minimum of 3 months.

Warehouse All Rounder Weekly Commimtment

Start and finish in Grenada North, Pick which day, weekly from 9am to 11.30am immediate start

You must be able to commit to doing this shift weekly for a minimum of 3 months as we are operating in bubbles. 

We are looking for reliable all-rounders who can work as part of a team, either sorting and storing non-food donations, or on the food side of our operations. Volunteers are required to wipe down the sorting tables and vacuum their work area at the end of each shift, so the space is ready for the next team of hard-working volunteers. 

Full training is provided by our team of volunteers.

Volunteers must have their own transport to get to and from our warehouse in Grenada North, as there is no public transport nearby.

Sunday para el pago con el movil en tu restaurante 1200x6404 Food Rescue Team and 2 Class 1 Chiller Truck Drivers, Grenada North 

1.00pm to 3.00pm once a month commitment (rain or shine)

Volunteers will need their own transport to get to and from our warehouse in Grenada North as we are not on a public transport route.  This shift is based outdoor and occurs rain or shine.

Due to the volumes we are currently receiving from Johnsonville School Farmers Markets we are increasing our food rescue team for this shift from 2 people to 3.  This shift is done with 2 team member in our chiller truck wearing full PPE gear.  Where possibly you must have the windows open for air recirculation.  The third team member can use their own car to meet their other 2 team members at Johnsonville School Farmers Market.  We will also need a driver to drive the chiller truck.  All drivers must be over 25 years old and have a full clean car driving licence. 

Upon arrival at Johnsonville School Farmers Market the stallholders will offer you food that they would like to donate.  You will need to sort the donations into grey crates provided, weigh the  crates and record the information for the next team.  

Drive the chiller truck back to our base in Grenada North.  Using a pallet jiffy place the crates of food on to a pallet into our chiller room.  Unpack the clean unused food rescue crates and put back into the racking unit.   Sweep out the chiller truck prior to using a steam mop to sterilise the interior, clean the inside of the truck cab ready for the next team to be able to use it.  This is a requirement for health and safety and our Covid-19 protocols.

On the job training is provided.

This role can involve some heavy lifting (between 2 people) so you must be reasonably fit.

A minimum commitment of 6 months is required for this monthly shift.
