Located in Grenada North (Wellington), our vibrant community at KCA eagerly welcomes new volunteers like you. To ensure smooth access, having your own vehicle is necessary, with convenient off-street parking available right outside our warehouse. We are now on new bus route 59 which only operates hourly Monday to Friday. This bus is more useful for those being based at our warehouse from 9am to 12pm.

Food Rescue Admin Team
Shift times: Monday (weekly), 7:45 am - 11:45 am
About the Role
Join our team on a Monday morning starting from our warehouse in Grenada North at 7.45am to 11:45 am. Note we are not on a public transport link so you must have your own transport to get to us in Grenada North. Upon arrival at our warehouse, you'll receive a manifest listing where you need to go to rescue food and who the food is to be allocated to whilst out on the road. Training is provided via a one-on-one session and there is a comprehensive manual for reference.
Your main tasks will include:
- Going out in our branded chiller truck as a passenger.
- Checking 'use by' and 'best before' dates for quality assurance.
- Sorting and boxing donated food from local supermarkets.
- Weighing all donated food for accurate reporting on the scales that we provide you.
- Using KCA's smartphone provided to upload photos and narrations to our Facebook page while on the road.
- Contacting the local foodbanks and organisations on your manifest when you're on your way back to base so that they can meet you to get the food off the truck back at our base in Grenada North.
You'll also use your personal cellphone to check in and out of stores via the Woolworths app (minimal data usage), or manually check-in at customer service desks.
What You Need
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with partner agencies for refrigerated stock pickups across the Greater Wellington region (Kapiti, Upper Hutt, and Wellington City).
- Physical fitness: You’ll be required to lift up to 15kg individually or 20kg with a partner, with the assistance of a barrel trolley provided by KCA.

Experienced Chiller Truck Drivers
Shift times: Thursday 7.45 am - 11:45 am
About the Role
As we are based in Grenada North you will need your own transport to get to our warehouse. Upon your arrival at our warehouse we will go through the route you are to take in our chiller truck (full class 1 car licence required and for our commercial insurance coverage you must be over the age of 25).
You will be working as part of a team with another food rescue volunteer who will do all the admin work.
This role involves heavy lifting up to 15kgs at a time so you must be physically fit.
Your responsibilities include:
- Sorting and boxing food donations from local supermarkets
- Checking 'use by' and 'best before' dates, weighing donations for reporting
- Driving the chiller truck safely, adhering to time slots at each store
- Using your personal cellphone for store check-ins via the Woolworths Visitors app (minimal data usage), or manually checking in at customer service
- Be an ambassador for KCA, and represent us in a positive manner in all dealings with donors, recipients, and the general public
What You Need
- Applicants must be at least 25 years old to meet the requirements of our driver insurance policy
- Full driver’s license and careful driving skills
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with other volunteers and agencies
- Physical fitness: Lifting up to 15kg individually
- Have a 'can do' attitude

Warehouse Team in Grenada North
Shift times: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, 9:30 am - 11:30 am
About the Role
As a Warehouse Team Member, you'll volunteer once a week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Note we are on bus route 59 which arrives at the bus stop outside our warehouse which only comes once a hour Monday to Friday. You’ll help sort, box, and store incoming donations, including food, clothing, furniture, and whiteware.
Key tasks include:
- Sorting and boxing donations for distribution to our 90 partner agencies.
- Keeping the warehouse clean by handling waste disposal and maintaining workspaces.
- Documenting donations and communicating with partner agencies.
- Maintaining cleanliness through tasks like wiping down tables and vacuuming.
What You Need
- Transportation: Volunteers will need their own transportation to access the warehouse, as we're not on a public transport route.
- Physical fitness: Lifting boxes (done by two people) and maintaining a clean, organized workspace is required.
This role requires a weekly commitment for 6 months. Join our warehouse team and contribute to supporting those in need in our community!

Join us as a Chiller Truck Driver, Food Sorter & Admin volunteer once a month on Sundays from 8:30 am to 11:30am, starting and finishing in Grenada North.
Your responsibilities include:
- Sorting and boxing donated food from local supermarkets.
- Checking 'use by' and 'best before' dates and weighing all food donations for reporting.
- Capturing photos and uploading them to Facebook while on the road.
- Using your personal cellphone for store check-ins via the Woolworths Visitors app (minimal data usage), or manually checking in at customer service.
What You Need
- Applicants must be at least 25 years old to meet the requirements of our driver insurance policy.
- Full driver’s license and safe driving skills.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with other volunteers and agencies.
