Volunteer with Us

Based in Grenada North you will need to have your own vehicle to be able to get to us.  There is off street car parking outside our warehouse.

Please note: The role that you play at KCA is very valuable with reliability and punctuality being key attributes that we require of our volunteers. Monday to Friday volunteers must be over the age of 16 and able to commit on a weekly basis for a minimum of 3 to 6 months.  Food rescue is a very physical role and you must be reasonable fit and able to lift 15kgs on your own or 20-25kgs between 2 people.

In the spirit of transparency, none of our volunteers are eligible or allowed to take any of the donated food or goods themselves.

KCA is big, KCA is fast, KCA is flexible.  Our volunteers work at our distribution hub helped over 100,000 residents in the Greater Wellington last financial year.   Our food rescue volunteers redistributed over 257,797kgs of food shared with local school, kindys, soup kitchens, refuges, foodbanks, community groups and families self isolating working with our partner agencies.

Our non-food operation volunteers worked at our warehouse last year and successfully made up over 4,124 banana boxes full of stock.

Our team of 49 volunteers would really like to have a few pairs of additional hands to join our teams.

During your interview please let us know if you have holidays booked.

We have a wide range of voluntary roles at KCA which we would love to fill asap with the busiest time of the year upon us - Christmas.  Please feel free to pick 1 day and time slot that would work for you.

Warehouse Team Members, Grenada North

Monday, Wednesday or Friday 9.30am to 11.30am, weekly commitment

Volunteers will need their own transport to get to and from our warehouse in Grenada North as we are not on a public transport route.

This role involves sorting and boxing up, or storing, all incoming donations. This can be anything from clothing and food, to furniture and whiteware. Once you have mastered where all the stock is in our warehouse, you will be able to assist with making up the various orders from our 90 partner agencies we distribute to.

Each warehouse team is also responsible for putting out the rubbish, wiping down the sorting tables and vacuuming their work areas. This helps out the next volunteer shift and is done by a roster system so each team member only does this about once a month.

The warehouse team photographs all donations coming in and going out, and posts them to our Facebook page. Our various partner agencies call and text us, so a great phone manner is required and you must be able to use a smart phone.

This role can involve some heavy lifting (between 2 people) so you must be reasonably fit.

A minimum commitment of 3 months is required for this shift.
